This would be a totally forgettable romantic comedy caper if it weren't for the fabulous intertextuality that pervades the film. There is animated Wagnerian wallpaper, a running meta-cinematic gag about an actress who plays multiple parts in the movie, and an actress who sings a duet with a Panoram (look it up) of herself. This is a delight. As for the title
Hi Diddle Diddle, I have no idea why this movie is called this, but I guess it must be somewhere in:
...the cat and the fiddle
the cow jumped over the moon
the little dog laughed
to see such sport
and the dish ran away with the spoon.
Maybe Martha Scott is supposed to be the dish?
